Hey guys I just bought a 2009 Ninja EX250 and am having an issue:
The bike starts/runs/shifts/rides well as long as I do not open the throttle all the way. If you go over 75-80% the motor goes into free spin as if you disengaged the clutch (pulled the clutch lever in). I suspect the free play is out of spec so I tightened the barrel on the clutch lever all the way down to the perch last night but this did not fix the issue completely, although it seems to have helped it some so in the morning I am going to do a "real" clutch cable adjustment. I didnt feel like messing with it in the dark last night.
About the bike:
I was told the bike sat for a year or two before the previous owner purchased it and rode it for about 5 months before upgrading to a new bike and selling it to me. The bike appears to be completely stock and the previous owner did no repairs or maintenance to the bike. I did the following repairs/maintenance on Monday when I got the bike:
replace the license plate bulb, replace the low/high headlight, oil and oil filter change, cleaned the air filter, tightened and waxed the chain, and sealed the tank (Red Kote).
